A beautiful rose. But even more than the appearance, the scent! This is the best smelling rose ever. So many of the hybrid roses lose the scent, but this is an amazing rose.
Also in this picture, you see what may appear to be a lack of pruning (and in fact, it is, we had roses in November last year), but is also is a neat juxtaposition of the beauty of a spring rose and the blackened remains of last falls last rose. The dead, black blossom pops in the sea of living green and shows how ephemeral some things are. One of Robert Frost's great poems is apropos - Nothing gold can stay.
Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold,
Her earliest leaf's a flower
but only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank in grief.
As dawn goes down to day,
Nothing gold can stay.
---- Robert Frost
(all the more reason to enjoy now!)
